Sentinel Project
The Sentinel Project is a new collaboration between Te Pou (service user workforce development), the Mental Health Foundation's Like Minds Like Mine project and the Auckland Regional Consumer Network. It brings together the common goals of the three partners and allies, a strategy which equates to working smarter for better results.
The Sentinel Project will combine resources and capacities of the partners to support and develop service user/tangata whaiora leaders, both those already in leadership roles and those aspiring to leadership roles.
The first meeting was held in March 2010. It was agreed in principle to progress the project to work plan stage, and for partners and allies to bring to the project their own proposals for inclusion and support. The second meeting on 3 June 2010 will clarify the proposal based on feedback, and work on terms of reference and principles for the project.
It is planned that service user leaders will be identified or self identify, and be trained, mentored, and supported to achieve the positions they nominate and propose to the partners, and the project wishes to support. Already an Intentional Peer Support training workshop has been delivered, and added to the pool of potential leaders.
Currently this project is happening in the northern region, however it is hoped that we will eventually connect and work with other groups and networks across New Zealand.
