Mental health and addiction update - 4 March 2010

Careerforce logo. In February the mental health and addiction sector panel met to discuss the ‘core’ content of the proposed level 4 mental health and addiction national certificate. Members considered whether the content of the draft unit standards:

  • were relevant to the entire mental health and addiction sector
  • were current and evidence based
  • reflected the normal practice of mental health and addiction support workers.

The sector panel also discussed how the requirements of the unit standards could be assessed.

An electronic consultation process will be held to gather sector feedback on the content of these draft core mental health and addiction unit standards and assessments.

Over the next two months specialised sector panels will meet to decide on the content of possible elective areas. These panels will consist of experts covering the areas of family/whanau, peer support/consumer, addiction, forensic, older adult and infant child and youth.

Visit the Careerforce website for more information about the mental health and addiction pathway, or contact Margaret Vick, Careerforce project manager (mental health and addiction).
