Looking to Implementation of Outcome Measures

On this page:

What is this work about?

This work will allow for robust and uniformly defined outcome measures information to be collected for improved service quality and workforce development.  A suite of measures will be mandated/recommended by the Ministry of Health for the mental health and addiction sector to use.

Background

At present mental health services in New Zealand are only mandated to collect the  Health of the Nation Outcomes Scale (HoNOS)  family of measures (a multi-dimensional clinician-rated measure of, mainly, symptom severity). However, if outcomes for service users are to be improved, it is essential that a more comprehensive suite of measures is developed.

What is Te Pou doing?

Te Pou has been contracted by the Ministry of Health to provide a report identifying a recommended suite of criteria and protocol to decide what outcome measures should be collected at a local and national level. This includes the development and potential implementation of a number of outcome measures. This will create an environment where clinicians and people using mental health and addiction services can readily use information to support and enhance recovery.

After the report is complete, subject to approval, this work may involve the implementation of additional outcome measures and input into outcome measure development.
