Medical graduates online induction
This project will develop and implement an online training package to support overseas-trained medical staff when they arrive in New Zealand and enable them to develop a strong understanding of the core values and generally accepted practices in psychiatry in New Zealand.

Background
Te Pou and the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists believe that there is a need to suitably support overseas trained medical staff when they arrive in New Zealand.
Many of the staff currently being recruited to work outside New Zealand's main centres are overseas trained. They are expected to commence work within a short time of arriving in New Zealand. To address the concerns that this raises, this project will allow overseas trained psychiatrists to develop a strong understanding of the core values and generally accepted practices in psychiatry in New Zealand, which are taken for granted by practitioners who have been raised or trained here.
Where to from here
To achieve this, Te Pou and its reference group will develop an online training and orientation package, allowing users 24-hour, seven-day access tp all elements of the package.Training aspects will be modular and self-paced, with modules produced in a way that they are suitable for use by all overseas trained medical practitioners.
