Dunedin 4U Forum, 7 March 2007
RICHNESS IN DIVERSITY: Te Pou staff and their Otago guests, from across the mental health sector, enjoyed the uplifting spaces within the beautiful Dunedin Public Art Gallery.
The Dunedin Public Art Gallery was the venue for the latest 4U Forum, and this, no doubt, contributed to a rich and diverse contribution of creative ideas and wonderful visitors from a cross-section of the mental health sector in the Otago region. Thank you to all our visitors.
Feedback Themes:
Families
More support for families; more recognition for families and what they do; families need to know about what Te Pou is doing.
Leadership and management
Lack of national leadership identified; particular need identified for support workers.
Training
The lower South Island is often neglected as a training destination, which results in costly and often inaccessible training opportunities; consider establishing a database of specialist trainers who travel to all regions.
Funding
Lack of flexibility identified in funding packages; challenges noted in terms of Service Specifications and Full Time Equivalent funding of positions.
Support work
Lack of career pathways identified; need for diploma-level qualification; under valued and unrecognised workforce.
Information technology
Need to build IT capability and infrastructure in the sector.
Te Pou
Needs to clarify its role and provide more information to the sector about what it is Te Pou does.
Other
Lack of understanding of the Regional Workforce Co-ordinator role.
