Wanganui 4U Forum, 1 March 2007
"The forums should be run again next year so interested parties can see progress and recap on the first year's performance/development" - Forum visitor
Apparently, it hasn't rained in Wanganui for four weeks - but it did today! Not so many people braved the weather to come along to the forum, but we had good discussions with those who did. Comments included:
• Most of the support workers in this region have completed the support worker certificate and want to develop their career pathway and want a Diploma of Support Work.
• Training feels stale and is not stretching people.
• There needs to be nationally consistent training for service users working in mental health, like a set of core competencies.
• There are often issues between cultures, ie, service user coming from a DHB medical model to a more holistic model.
• NGOs said it would be good to be able to measure how good their services are.
• Having a system that can measure and keep track of changes would be helpful.
• Strong support for the innovation fund.
• The possibilities of the increasingly talked about e-learning developments.
• Need for more alcohol and drug training, and strategies on how to improve practice.
