Wellington 4U Forum, 26 February 2007
CAPITAL TALKS: (L to R) Maree Maddock (Wise Management Services), Lyndsay Fortune(Pathways) and Karl Metzler (Te Pou) discuss NGO issues.
With a bright and early start to the week, and loaded with resources, the Te Pou forum team arrived in Porirua City, and the weather was perfect! Our Human Resources Strategic Consultant, Lucille Coward (an Aussie), enjoyed the scenic shuttle route, and we were all warmly received by our hosts at Blueprint.
We had a number of interesting visitors, who brought up these points to ponder:
- How to further develop peer support workers
- Numerous people raising the issue of the need for supervision for support workers and consumer advisers
- Training and education needs of NGO staff
- Relevance of training programmes for NGO staff
- Awareness-raising in the sector about working with the service user workforce
- Supporting NGOs to collect and use information effectively
- Career pathway development for support workers
- Consumer advisor training needs to be a priority
- How to improve working with families and family advisors.
