Whangarei 4U Forum, 19 February 2007
Brett Lindsay, SF Northland: The first male visitor to the 4U Forums!
"Friendly staff, great displays and content - thank you," Forum visitor
Te Pou's very first regional engagement forum was an enjoyable and satisfying event. So far, the response from the sector has been positive and we are looking forward to getting more feedback from our visitors as the week progresses.
It appears there could have been some confusion about the format of the day - please note if you were intending to come to one of the forums that it is not a presentation. You are welcome to drop by any time between 10am and 2.30pm to read our displays, talk to our staff, ask them about our work, make your own suggestions, look at our website and sit and have a cup of tea and a biscuit or two.
The Whangarei forum drew a number of mental health workers from a variety of organisations - the DHB, a PHO, Supporting Families and Pathways, to name but a few. Visitors registered online to enter a draw for some Whitcoulls book vouchers and sign up for our fortnightly e-bulletin. They then spent time reading our poster displays, which explain our work and purpose. Staff members were on hand to talk visitors through the many Te Pou projects and ask their own questions about the visitors' views of the workforce and MH-SMART initiative.
During their visits, people highlighted a number of needs:
• Information on where to go to get funding for further education
• A central place to find out what research is happening in mental health
• Plain English summaries of research documents
• Consumer advisors within small NGOs to link in with national consumer training initiatives
• Training for family/whanau and family/whanau advisor training.
