Martin's role was to ensure that the Train the Trainers programme met the deliverables as set out in the agreement between UniServices and Te Pou, and to work collaboratively with UniServices on all aspects of the programme.

Samson Tse

Samson's role was to oversee Train the Trainers, ensuring it met the objectives and was completed on time. He provided the link between the UniServices project team and Te Pou, and other involved organisations.

Dr Amritha Sobrun-Maharaj

Dr Amritha Sobrun-Maharaj
Project Coordinator

Amritha brings a depth of experience in terms of education and service delivery. Her roles included:

  • Collating resources required for developing a programme regarding Asian mental health using a Train the Trainers' concept.
  • Designing the education programme.
  • Meeting with DHBs and potential trainers.
  • Offering support to trainers during the implementation of the programme.
  • Leading the write-up of the final report.
Cherry Hsu

Cherry Hsu
Teaching and Learning Technologist (Goodfellow Unit)

Cherry brings expertise in delivering teaching modules through the use of educational technology. Her role was to assist with developing the education programme. Her specific tasks included:

  • Putting together an interactive CD to be used by trainers.
  • Collating gathered resources and materials for the CD.
  • Providing support to trainers in the use of the CD.
Shoba Nayar

Shoba Nayar
Research Fellow

Shoba has been involved in the earlier delivery of the four two-day workshops in four main centres across the country, with a focus on educating and informing mental health clinicians working with Asian clients. She worked closely with Amritha to develop the education training programme. Her roles included:

  • Assisting in the production of training materials.
  • Networking with DHBs and identifying suitable trainers.
  • Planning, organising and scheduling meetings with the DHBs and training workshops for trainers.
  • Supporting trainers as they undertake the education training programme.
  • Assisting in the write-up of the final report.
Peter Huggard

Peter Huggard
Advisor on Distance Learning

Peter is a senior lecturer and the academic advisor for the Department of General Practice and Primary Health Care at the School of Population Health, Auckland University. His interests are in designing and coordinating flexible learning programmes of study across a wide range of clinical and non-clinical subject areas. His teaching and research interests are in the areas of communication, vicarious traumatisation and self -care in health professionals. Peter has Master's degrees in public health and in counselling, and is undertaking research towards a doctorate examining compassion fatigue in doctors.

Dr Sai Wong and Renuka Wali
Professional Consultants

Sai is a prominent Chinese consultant psychiatrist and an honorable senior lecturer in the Department of Psychological Medicine, University of Auckland. Renuka is an Indian-born, Auckland-based clinical psychologist. She is currently in private practice and works with children, adults and families in relation to a wide range of mental health problems, both in an assessment and therapeutic capacity. Both Sai and Renuka have been involved as facilitators in the earlier delivery of the four two-day workshops. Their role in Train the Trainers included:

  • Providing expert knowledge, information and resources to go in to the education programme.
  • Facilitating parts of the training workshops for potential trainers within the DHBs.
